PSYC 597 Developmental Psychopathology


This graduate class introduces principles of developmental psychopathology, e.g., how normative development informs atypical development and vice versa, the importance of success/failure at age appropriate stages of development, the study of risk groups, and pathways to resilience as well as to psychopathology.

We will discuss theories and research on the etiology of disorders including affective disorders, autism, schizophrenia, and personality disorders. We will also discuss treatment and developmentally sensitive preventive interventions.

Students will be responsible for leading weekly discussions on the literature and for completing a grant application for a proposed study in their area of interest.
